High in the Stubai Valley, surrounded by peaks that shift with the weather, lies Gletscher Chalet. A quiet retreat where family and nature meet. When we visited, rain had settled in. Water fell from every slope and ridge, turning the valley into a landscape of waterfalls. The sound was constant and calm, as if the mountains were breathing.
We stayed in the new Kräuterhex Chalet, created by Lea Siller, who runs Gletscher Chalet with her husband Gerhard and their two young children. The space feels refined yet rooted — complete with an outdoor Finnish sauna facing the misty valley. Inside, it’s all wood, stone, and soft light. Each morning, an Alpine breakfast is served in the chalet — local cheeses, fresh bread, and homemade jams — a quiet start before the day begins.
Lea grew up in a family of hosts. Her parents built the nearby Activehotel Bergkönig, which became the foundation for everything that followed. Between guests, cows, and alpine pastures, hospitality became a way of life. Their roots lie in the Stöcklenalm, where the family still keeps cattle and produces much of what ends up on the table. During our visit, we experienced the spirit of Bergkönig firsthand — the attentive staff, the local wines , the dinner that felt more like a gathering than a meal. It’s the kind of hospitality that feels effortless and sincere. After a long day in the mountains, it feels like coming home.
From that world of nature and connection came a new idea: a smaller, quieter place that carries those values in a different form.

At Gletscher Chalet, everything feels intentional. The materials are local and natural: reclaimed wood, stone, linen, and wool. They give each room its character — solid, grounded, and true to the valley around it. Sustainability guided every choice, not as a statement but as a matter of respect — for the mountains, for the valley, for what lasts.Inside, the atmosphere mirrors the valley — calm and steady, the kind of quiet that doesn’t demand silence but invites it.
Days here move at a slower pace. The Stubai Glacier gleams in the distance, and the 3S Panoramalift offers a view that’s hard to forget — quiet, vast, and humbling. Nearby lies 007 Elements, an impressive piece of architecture built inside the mountain itself. Perfectly integrated into the landscape, it shows how bold design can exist in harmony with nature. The area is ideal for hiking and cycling, with trails starting right outside the door. You can walk the WildeWasserWeg or visit the Franz Senn Hütte. For Lea, one of her favorite moments is autumn at the Stubai Glacier — when the light softens, the first snowflakes appear, and everything seems to pause for a while.
What stays with you after leaving Stubai isn’t a single moment, but a sense of balance. Between design and simplicity. Between nature and comfort. Between the rhythm of the valley and the stillness that defines this place. For us, that is why it belongs in Creators Places: because Gletscher Chalet captures what we value most — spaces that slow you down, reconnect you with your surroundings, and remind you how creativity often begins with stillness.
